ABOUT
Jorge G. Camarena is a writer/director born in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he majored in Communication Sciences. He holds an MFA as a Directing Fellow in the AFI Conservatory, class of 2021. He is currently based in LA and is a BAFTA Newcomers talent.
He believes filmmaking is a dream capturing machine that can not only travel through time and space but also into the most obscure corners of the human psyche providing us with a glimpse of our own existence.
His music videos have been nominated for several awards including a nomination for Best Video at the Latin Grammy Awards, 4 nominations for the MTV Video Awards, and has played at international festivals including Morelia Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, and Camerimage. His work has been featured in recognized media such as Rolling Stone, NPR, Remezcla, Billboard, Filmmaker Magazine, and VICE among others.
His AFI short film "Spaceship" received the Sloan Foundation production grant and was acquired for distribution by Focus Features. It has received a Student Emmy nomination, an ASC Student Nomination, an Official Selection at the Outfest Film Festival and Camerimage. It has won a grand prize at the DGA Student Awards, a Gotham Award, and best short at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival.
